Moisturising Must-Haves

winter

It’s common sense to keep your skin moisturised year-round, but winter seems to be a season of neglect because all we want to do is keep ourselves covered up at all times, so often moisturising routines get put on the backburner. I think the importance of moisturising should never be underestimated, so here are my four essential products for ensuring your skin stays healthy in winter.

  1. Weleda Skin Food
Skin Food is such a cult product that I hardly need to explain why it’s a winter must-have. I use this baby daily on my face – it’s great if you love a heavy, rich moisturiser like I do (i.e. it’s perfect if you have very dry skin that needs constant hydration). I warm this in my hands and smooth over my face and neck every morning before makeup application and at night after I’ve showered – hot water makes my skin very, very thirsty so a thick night moisturiser is necessary.
  2. Suvana Paw Paw & Honey Balm
If you’re looking to replace your beloved red tube of paw paw ointment, Suvana is the one to get. This balm hydrates chapped, windburnt lips and soothes and heals cracked noses, not to mention it actually tastes like honey! Layer this on before and after using tissues and your nose WON’T get rubbed raw. Suvana is easily found in-store at Priceline or online at Nourished Life.
  3. Weleda Almond Sensitive Skin Hand Cream
Indoor heaters and air conditioning (a.k.a. inescapable winter necessities) tend to take moisture out of the air and subsequently dry the heck out of your skin – I find hands are the biggest victims of this as the skin on the back of your hands in particular is quite thin. Pair this with cold, dry winds outside and you’ve got a recipe for cracked, sore hands. I love using Weleda’s almond hand cream whenever my hands feel dry for instant hydration. This cream is quite thin and lotion-like, so your hands will feel hydrated but not at all greasy.
  4. Every Bit Organic Raw Shea Butter
Shaving your legs in cold weather can irritate the skin as goosebumps can interfere with the razor getting a smooth cut. My go-to solution for this is my handy tub of raw shea butter – I found this at my local health food store and absolutely love it. Shea butter works brilliantly as a simple and soothing remedy for itching and irritation. Similar to coconut oil, shea butter is relatively hard and softens on contact with body heat. I smooth this on my legs at night whenever I need to combat extreme itchiness, and it works like a charm every time. Shea butter is also known to aid irritation associated with eczema.

These four prods are my absolute necessities during winter and they have definitely saved my skin. Let me know if you have any favourite winter moisturisers that I ought to check out…
